Social Media Policy
The Division of Human Rights uses social networking platforms to share updates and information about the Division's activities and related content with the public. We encourage interaction and communication about the content we post on our social media accounts. However, we expect that conversations will be courteous and respectful and our social media accounts are not meant for comments that do not relate to the purpose or topic of the post or page, or for individual requests related to cases before the Division. Communications made to the Division via social media will not be considered formal public comment and/or constitute official legal notice to the Division or requests for records under the Freedom of Information Law. Such submissions will not be acknowledged.
The Division does not discriminate against any views, but we moderate comments for inappropriate and off-topic comments. We may remove comments that:
- Are not related to the topic of the Division’s social media page or post;
- Use abusive, violent, obscene, profane, hateful, threatening or harassing language, personal attacks, or other language with the potential to compromise public safety;
- Are suggestive or encouraging of illegal activity;
- Constitute libel, slander, or contain personal attacks of any kind, including the use of offensive terms that target specific individuals or groups;
- Include campaigning or lobbying activities, or advertising or the promotion of any personal causes, such as political or religious causes;
- Include private information that could be used to identify any individual;
- Include spam, undecipherable language, or any content that links to external pages hosting content that violates this commenting policy; or
- Are duplicative/repetitive.
Each of the social networking platforms used by the Division has their own privacy and content moderation policies, which you are subject to when you use that platform. Please note that the appearance of external links, advertisements, political opinions, or other posts do not constitute endorsement of the Division. Please also note that the Division may occasionally use support from New York State approved artificial intelligence tools to assist in the development of captions, graphics, or other social media materials. Further, establishment of our social media accounts does not imply that the Division agrees with or accepts the content, opinions, or views expressed within any public comment on such account.
